GIMP is the cross platforms application and available for Linux, Windows, MAC OS, and FreeBSD, etc. This tutorial will help you to install the latest Gimp on macOS using homebrew. Mac os x el capitan download link. Step 1 – Prerequisites. Before starting the installation of GIMP using this tutorial you must have the following prerequisites. To install the latest version of GIMP on a Mac, at the time of writing you'll need OS X Yosemite or newer. Not sure which version of Mac OS you're using? Follow these instructions to find out. Now, head over to the official GIMP download page, and click it's link to download GIMP to your computer. The GIMP download package should be revealed in your downloads. It is a '.dmg' file, which is a standard download package for MAC. Click on this file once it has finished downloading. The download package will open, displaying a status bar as the files are extracted (it will take a minute or so, depending on how slow/fast your computer is).

Yes, then I go to my security settings and say ok and it will open but not install. So I have to run the dmg everytime.

Installing on Mac
When you decompress the dmg file, what do you get, the program itself, a package, or an installer? It should just be the program. Drag it into your applications folder, then launch it from there. If the system won't let you, there's a work around. Let me know.
